Fundaci贸n Banco de Alimentos is founding member of the Argentine Network of Food Banks, and a member of The Global FoodBanking Network located in the United States.


Banco de Alimentos Argentine Network

red_logo_ArgentinaThe Banco de Alimentos Argentine Network www.redbancosdealimentos.org is a legally incorporated non-profit organization made up of 14 local food banks. It was created in June 2003 as an initiative by the food banks to enhance their collaborative work and strengthen the tools that each possessed in order to reduce hunger and improve the nutritional situation of Argentina.

It must be highlighted that there may only be one food bank per jurisdiction. In Argentina de 14 food banks are located in: the city of Buenos Aires; La Plata; Mar del Plata; Tandil; C贸rdoba; Goya and Omb煤 Virasoro (Corrientes); Mendoza and Valle de Uco (Mendoza); Neuqu茅n; Salta; Jujuy and Tucum谩n. Additionally, four new food banks are being established in Bah铆a Blanca; San Juan; San Rafael (Mendoza) and Quimil铆.

Cities where there are groups of people interested in creating new food banks: Chaco, R铆o Cuarto (C贸rdoba); Rosario (Santa Fe); Santiago del Estero; Corrientes.

The Network & Banks

    1. The Global FoodBanking Network audits and provides technical assistance to the Argentine Network of Food Banks
    2. The Argentine Network of Food Banks audits and trains the Food Banks to ensure model follow-up.
    3. The Food Banks and the Network provide the necessary logistics to facilitate donation.
    4. The Food Banks regularly visit the beneficiary institutions that they assist to ensure that they are working properly and to follow up on their health and hygiene standards.
    5. The Food Banks use an inventory system that allows them traceability of foodstuffs distributed.
    6. The Food Banks send periodic reports to donors informing them of the final destination of their donation.

      The Global FoodBanking Network

      The Global FoodBanking Network was established in 2006 with the support of four Food Bank Networks from Argentina, Canada, Mexico and United States. Its purpose is to audit and provide technical assistance to National networks.

      Currently, apart from its four founding members, there are networks in Great Britain; Japan; South Africa; Austrailia; Guatemala and Colombia.
