Fruits and Vegetables Program
As opposed to other Food Banks in Latin America, most of the products distributed in
Furthermore, working closely with organizations and feeding centers has shown that many people are not used to eating fruit and vegetables, particularly children. For this reason, instilling good feeding habits and teaching how to prepare healthy, nutritive food, has become an every day practice in the Food Banks.
Within this context, The Argentine Network of Food Banks has set out to add almost 1 million Kilos of fruit and vegetables in the next two years, securing donations at the supply markets and production areas.
Working Together
The Rescue of Fruit and Vegetables program is being implemented with the support of Kraft Cares and together with the Network and all the Food Banks in the country, oriented at improving the food of people afflicted by hunger.
Very often producers must reject food because of small flaws: either they do not meet the high standards required for export, or because they are reaching the end of their shelf life without being sold. In some cases even, it is the case of fruit that is not harvested because its sale price does not cover costs.

Kiwifruit: Together with Banco de Alimentos
Apples: We received over 50 tons of apples donated by Jugos
Citrus fruit: We received an average of 25 tons of oranges and Mandarines a month from Concordia, San Pedro and Villa Alsina (Estancias Alsina; Morresi Fruit; Exportadora del Litoral; CitrÃcola Ayui y Frutales).
