The main activity consists of securing food fit for human consumption and which companies for different reasons do not market. It is the case of products that result from excess production; that show mistakes in their packaging; that have not been successfully marketed; with up-coming expiration dates or which do not meet the technical quality specifications that companies demand.
We also receive food that does not have those problems but that some companies donate through the Fundaci贸n because we are able to trace down their donations and they know for certain that it reaches members of the community who really need help to be able to eat every day.
This is the case not only of sporadic donations, but also of help programs aimed at specific communities or food reinforcement programs, where Fundaci贸n Banco de Alimentos designs, administrates and executes plans according to donor specifications.
In order to do this, we have specific stock management tools in our software, tailored to the Fundaci贸n鈥檚 needs, that enable us to hold a precise register of the inputs and outputs and that include an alarms mechanism that informs us of close up due dates and that blocks the issuing of remittance documents of expired merchandise.
Likewise, we also carry out operations of merchandise reception, classification and delivery at our 2000 m2 warehouse, located at a logistics center equipped to that end. It has two cold chambers for refrigerated products and another for frozen products.
We also have a computerized system for stock management and food expiration dates. This system allows us to generate a report that is sent to each food donor once the merchandise has been delivered, where he/she will find detailed information as to each of the institutions that have received those foodstuffs; the quantity of Kilos and the amount of people who benefited by it.
For donations that are not delivered at our warehouse, we have the support of first class logistics companies that transport the fresh or non-perishable merchandise.

We help feed over 85,5000 people through the work we do, of which 80% are children and adolescents.
We distribute food among 511 organizations (feeding centers; day-care centers; old people鈥檚 homes; parishes; schools, among others) in the Federal Capital and Suburban Buenos Aires.
At present we reach out to the Federal Capital and 24 districts of Suburban Buenos Aires (3 de Febrero, Alte. Brown, Avellaneda, Berazategui, Capital Federal, Escobar, Esteban Echeverr铆a, Florencio Varela, Hurlingham, Jose C. Paz, La Matanza, Lan煤s, Lomas de Zamora, Malvinas Argentinas, Merlo, Moreno, Mor贸n, Pilar, Quilmes, San Fernando, San Isidro, San Mart铆n, San Miguel, Tigre, Vicente L贸pez).
An enormous amount of the Districts that are at present incorporated into the Fundaci贸n Banco de Alimentos present a very high level of Unsatisfied Basic Needs (UBN).
We have a 2000 m2 warehouse next to our offices in San Mart铆n, Province of Buenos Aires.
We currently rely on the support of over 100 companies that donate food and over 130 that donate services.
Since April 2008 we have been working according to strict quality policies that have allowed us to certify our Quality Management System under the ISO 9001:2000 Standard.
But we need to do more. This year, as a result of the general situation the country is undergoing, food donations have diminished and without food there is no chain.
For this reason, now, more than ever, we need more companies to cooperate with us so that we may meet our objective of incorporating 82 organizations and food centers more, which are still on a waiting list.
